About time zones

The world is divided into about 38 time zones, ranging from UTC−12 to UTC+14. Most are offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in whole hours, though a few use 30- or 45-minute offsets — India is UTC+5:30, Nepal UTC+5:45, parts of Australia UTC+9:30.

Many regions also observe daylight saving time, shifting their clocks forward by an hour in spring and back in autumn. The cities listed here automatically follow their local DST rules — the times you see are always correct for "right now" in that city.

Working across time zones

If you collaborate with people in another country, knowing their local time helps you avoid 6 a.m. meetings. The world clock above updates every second so you can glance at it before sending that "got a minute?" message.

How accurate is this?

iAlarmClock uses your computer's clock (synced with a network time server by your operating system) and the IANA time zone database built into your browser. As long as your system clock is correct, the times shown are accurate to the second.

World clock FAQ

Does this account for daylight saving time?
Yes. The browser's Intl API uses the IANA time zone database, which knows the DST rules for each city.
What if my city isn't listed?
We highlight 12 popular cities. The home page includes a 24-hour live clock for your local time. If you'd like a specific city added, let us know.
Why is the time slightly off?
If the time is off, your computer's clock is probably out of sync. Most operating systems will resync if you toggle "Set time automatically" off and back on.
